verybody knows all the wonderful stories about kings, princes and beggars, giants and dwarves, witches and dragons and powers of good and evil. For generations, fairy tales such as the ones by the brothers Jacob (1785-1863) and Wilhelm (1786-1859) Grimm from Hanau have captured the hearts of countless children all over the world. In these "Once upon a time..." stories, eternal values like love, friendship and courage are conveyed in an instructive and exciting way. "Cinderella", "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves", "Little Red Riding Hood" or "Hansel and Gretel" have lost none of their huge attraction for children of all ages since their "conception" around two hundred years ago.

Greenlight wants to prove that the original fairy-tale collection by the Grimm brothers from the German Romantic period still occupies an important place in the hearts of children even at the threshold to the third millennium by establishing the new media brandname SimsalaGrimm™: a unique and high-class cartoon production directed by Gerhard Hahn, which is in no way inferior to the top level of the great Hollywood cartoon films. Therefore SimsalaGrimm™ distinguishes itself clearly and positively from the "inflation of the trivial" which is prevalent in the majority of current cartoon films in German-speaking children's entertainment.

SimsalaGrimm™ makes it possible to experience the fascination of the Grimm stories once more - as a series for the first time. A unique element is the consistent, modern frame story which links the 26 episodes to each other (two blocks of 13 episodes, each with a playing time of 26 minutes). This role is performed by the new, unmistakable and specially-created figures of "Yoyo" and "Doc Croc" - two cheerful fellows who introduce each fairy-tale, accompany it with their clever commentaries, provide witty impulses and step in to the action whenever the opportunity arises. The "fairy-tale book" is also part of the team: it (re-)presents the most beautiful stories from the fairy-tale treasure-trove of the Grimm brothers and Yoyo and Doc Croc fly on it from one adventure to the next.

Finally, a highlight whose first gleam can already be seen on the horizon is the fairy-tale film "Niklas and the Magician" which will reach cinemas in 2001. The cartoon film, which is produced in feature film format and which tells a brand new story, stands out thanks to a huge helping of magic, excitement and adventure. The film features the SimsalaGrimm™ characters Yoyo and Doc Croc and further figures and elements from the Grimm brothers' fairy-tale treasure trove.
